South African Coffee Recipe Warms the Heart and Soul

The chef at Eagle's Crag Lodge in South Africa’s Shamwari Game Reserve has created a special drink that safari-goers savor on chilly nights. A mixture of several taste sensations that delight the palate, the Shamwari Coffee has a warming effect that turns chattering teeth into smiles – especially when served in front of a roaring fire. And now skiers are discovering its delicious benefits combined with silky texture and complex aroma when returning from a day on the slopes. Following is the recipe to warm your heart…and more:

Shamwari’s Coffee
1 quart of milk
Half a cup of grated chocolate
Zest of 1 orange
Almond extract (a dash) according to your taste buds
2 heaping Tablespoons of good coffee ground fine
Add all ingredients to the pot and bring to a simmer. Do not boil. Add a shot of Amarula Crème or Bailey’s Cream. Pour into a mug and enjoy.

*Note: For non-alcoholic drink, add 1 Tablespoon of Condensed Milk in place of the Amarula or Bailey’s Cream.
